USER GUIDE – WHY A CRANK ELEVATING TRIPOD MAKES LASER SETUP EASIER, SAFER & QUICKER

Why a crank tripod makes laser setup easier & quicker

TIPS & TRICKS

Overview

The idea in one line!

Set up the Tripod on firm ground, then wind the handle to lift it until the beam lines up with the receiver on your excavator’s dipper arm.

Why it's easier

  • Fine, controlled adjustment. Winding the crank raises the laser smoothly, so you can stop exactly where the beam meets the receiver. There's no guessing and no clamping and unclamping tripod legs.
  • Watch the receiver as you wind. The receiver on the dipper arm shows when you're on the beam. Raise the laser gradually until the centre light turns bright green, then stop. Green means level.
  • Reach height without extra kit. The tripod elevates to 2.90m, so the laser can be lifted into the line of sight of a receiver mounted on the arm of a machine.

Why it's safer

  • Keep your feet on the ground. You don't need ladders, steps, boxes or a stretch to reach the laser. That means fewer slips and falls on uneven, muddy or loose ground.
  • No handling the laser at height. You're not lifting it onto a high mount or leaning over it. The crank does the lifting.
  • Less time near the machine. A quicker setup means less time spent working around moving plant. Stay clear of the excavator's working area and agree signals with the operator before you start.

Why it's quicker

  • One setup, one adjustment. Place the tripod, level it, switch on the laser, then wind up to the receiver. You don't have to relocate the whole setup to fix a height problem.
  • Easy to re-align. If the receiver position changes, a few turns of the handle bring the laser back into line.
  • Less rework. A laser that's properly aligned to the receiver from the start saves time on checking and correcting levels later.

Quick setup routine

  • Set the tripod on firm ground, with the legs spread and secure.
  • Mount the laser and switch it on, allowing it to self-level.
  • Fix the receiver to the side of the dipper arm so it faces the laser.
  • Wind the crank handle slowly to lift the laser up into the air.
  • Stop when the receiver's centre diode shows bright green.
  • Check the tripod is still stable, then start work.

Pro tips

  • Wind in small turns. Slow turns near the beam make it easy to settle exactly on level.
  • Keep the receiver clean. Dust and mud on the lens can hide the beam.
  • Mind the ground. Check the tripod hasn't settled into soft ground after a few minutes. If it has, re-check against the receiver.
  • Keep the beam clear. Make sure nothing, including people, blocks the line between laser and receiver.
